IUI Treatment

Intra Uterine Insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment involving the administration of low-dose medication to stimulate the development of one or two follicles, either in a natural cycle or with medical assistance.

Subsequently, a Washed semen sample is directly inserted into the uterus, enhancing the chances of fertilization by increasing the number of sperm reaching the fallopian tubes.

When is IUI Recommended?

IUI is recommended for couples attempting to conceive for at least a year without success.

It is particularly suggested in cases of unexplained infertility, mild decreased sperm motility, mild endometriosis, mild low sperm count, the need for donor sperm, and issues related to ejaculation and erection dysfunction.

How does IUI Function?

The IUI procedure can be conducted in a natural cycle, although doctors may prescribe medications to stimulate follicle production for increased success. The objective is to foster the growth of one to two follicles, monitored through ultrasound until reaching a size of 18mm or more. At this point, human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) is administered to trigger the release of the egg from the follicle.

In the laboratory, a semen sample undergoes a washing process to separate sperm from seminal fluid. Using a catheter, the processed semen sample is then directly injected into the uterus. The IUI procedure is generally painless. About two weeks post-IUI, a pregnancy test is recommended to assess the outcome.

What is the Success Rate of IUI?

The average success rate for IUI ranges from 10-20% in a single cycle. However, for women over 35 years of age, the success rate tends to decrease.
